Intuitive Coaching 101–The Instead-of Diet

DSCN0927Many people these days live on diets where they substitute one food for another due to food allergies and intolerance. I’ve done this for years and even had many people poke fun at me, at their expense. Eating should never feel like torture so find away around the culprit foods by using your imagination.

I came up with the Instead Of Diet, but this isn’t just for people with food allergies. It’s also for people who desire an alternative from traditional recipes. I don’t know about you, but I’ve traveled a long ways (almost the equivalent of traveling to another country), when it comes to diet. When once I ate Jello-fruit molds, instant dinner from a box (poison), Twinkies, and casseroles, I now eat super foods, 5 to 7 imaginative servings of fruits and vegetables as part of a mostly vegetarian diet (except for the occasional mercury-free tuna).

Instead of pasta and pesto try pesto over quinoa or other non-gluten grains. Did you know that quinoa is actually a seed and not a grain? And for the pesto, try using carrots, spinach, walnut, garlic, apple cider vinegar and the freshly pressed oil of your choice. I’ve also tried pesto made from stinging nettles and nuts.

Instead of eating tuna salad drenched in mayonnaise, buy Trader Joe’s (sustainably-caught, mercury-free), tuna in olive oil then just add apple cider vinegar. Instead of having the tuna salad on bread, try it on rice cakes or rice crackers. I’ve had it with Trader Joe’s quinoa-rice pasta.

Instead of a yogurt smoothie or pudding, try tossing a banana, avocado, hemp protein powder, and hemp, soy, almond, or coconut milk into a blender. I use unsweetened milk then add stevia for taste. You can also add organic fair trade coco powder (cacao) and maca. This will get you going in the morning or you can eat it (yes, it’s to thick to drink) before going on an evening walk or bike ride.

If you would like a pudding add agar flakes which you have to boil first.

Finally, when the weather’s warm, look for more foods you can prepare in a blender or eat more salads. If you’re low on iron, eat dandelions, stinging nettles, and seaweeds. You can find recipes online. Also grow stinging nettles and chickweed in a clean part of your yard or garden. These plants provide herbal remedies that are especially helpful for women’s health. Again, look for herb websites. Susan Weed comes to mind and I read about these helpful herbs in one of her books years ago.

Happy alternative eating. If anyone pokes fun at you, remember the jokes on them. At some point, they’ll come to you for healthy food advice because you’ll look amazing for your age. The conventional diets that most people consume are pure poison in my opinion and can only lead to health problems.
