Self-Reiki Practice is More Than Self-Care

When I studied Reiki online, the Reiki Master emphasized a self-Reiki practice in her lessons. She regretted that most students stopped the practice upon completing their attunement period of twenty-eight days.

However, for the students who diligently practice Reiki on themselves once or twice a day plus meditations would reap the greater benefits of Reiki. And they would clear their energy fields each day helping them to show up better for their clients.

For me, Reiki isn’t just a healing modality–it’s a lifestyle. Reiki transformed my life and gave me the courage to heal co-dependency and to to the unimaginable (relocating across the US). Reiki also brought a dream of mine (serving animals) to fruition. Even beyond that, my intuition became more sharply focused and my other gifts were enhanced, including my musical and literary abilities.

With the self-Reiki practice (everyday since I went through my attunement during the summer of 2020) has brought miraculous healing in my mind, body, and emotions. I’m more patient and tolerant now. I’m better able at creating boundaries and saying no to toxic situations which were familiar to me in the past. I have met more people with integrity and who are generous/kind. I too have become a kinder person.

My behaviors which caused me shame (such as gossip and backlashing political leaders) doesn’t give me any satisfaction now. I just know it isn’t going to resolve any problems. I also realize that it’s the behaviors of the people I criticize and not their souls which like my soul, is on a journey. (I’m still discerning of unwanted behaviors in myself and others).

This isn’t to say I’ve become virtuous overnight. That would be wishful thinking. I still have quirks I would like to change in myself. I still have chronic illnesses I prefer to heal so that my life is more expansive instead of limited. I’m still facing my shadows and acknowledging the places in me that are requiring a flood of light.

However, I’m willing and able to give up bad habits. I’m willing to expand and become more mindful. I’m willing to teach what I’ve learned along the way. I’m willing to spread kindness in the world and when I don’t, to apologize. I’m willing to become more humble, generous, and compassionate. And that’s the real reason I was drawn to Reiki in the first place.

So, the takeaways from my story I share with you are:

  1. Learning Reiki is the best practice you can do for yourself.
  2. Practicing self-Reiki each day is not an indulgence but a necessity for personal growth.
  3. Reiki is a lifestyle for those who choose to embrace it and allow transformation to occur.
  4. Reiki can be used on anything or anyone but when you send Reiki to another sentient being ask for permission from their higher self or say, “May the Reiki only go where it is needed for highest and best.”
  5. Become a lifelong learner and bring the Reiki Principles of trust, resolving anger, honesty, gratitude, and kindness to all areas of your life.

You won’t even remember what your life was like prior to embracing the Reiki path. The transformation is total and miraculous. Not only that, your life becomes a walking and breathing miracle. You become the Reiki–Universal Life Force.
